Research Focus

Otorhinolaryngological Sciences and Skull Base

Evaluation of the physiological and pathological mechanisms of the affections that compromise the upper digestive airways as well as the rehabilitation of the sequels resulting from the lesions, using new technologies of bioengineering and inflammatory markers. To investigate the morphophysiopathological mechanisms of sensory and neurological disorders that compromise the cranial nerves responsible for hearing and body balance. Develop specific instruments as well as experimental models for rehabilitation.

Evaluation of the physiological and pathological mechanisms of the affections that compromise the region of the cranial base transition is involving the different disciplines of Otorhinolaryngology, Clinical and Surgical Neurology.

Research Focus: Pathophysiological mechanisms and rehabilitation of conditions of upper aerodigestive pathways assessment

Evaluation of the physiological and pathological mechanisms of the affections that compromise the upper digestive airways as well as the rehabilitation of the sequels resulting from the lesions, using new technologies of bioengineering and inflammatory markers.

Research Focus: Biohistocompatibility of implantable materials

Research with new materials aimed at the rehabilitation of patients submitted to partial or total withdrawal of phonoarticulation elements and either swallowing and or breathing with the use of laboratory research involving implantable materials techniques.

Research Focus: Morphophysiopathological mechanisms of sensory and neural dysfunction of hearing and body balance

Study of morphophysiopathological mechanisms of sensory and neurological disorders that compromise the cranial nerves responsible for hearing and body balance. Develop specific instruments as well as experimental models for rehabilitation.

Research Focus: New tools in education and training in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck

Develop computing science tools that support and complement teaching and virtual models creation for the teaching and training in otorhinolaryngological surgeries and surgery of head and neck.

Applied Head and Neck Surgery

Assessment of risk, genetic, behavioral and treatment factors of the main epithelial neoplasms of the high airway digestive tract and its cervical metastases.

Research Focus: Behavior of Neoplasms of Superior Aerodigestive Treatment

Assessment of risk, genetic, behavioral and treatment factors of the main epithelial neoplasms of the high airway digestive tract and its cervical metastases. 

Research Focus: Morphophysiopathology of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Gland

Genetic and cytological study of the changes in the thyroid and parathyroid gland, related to the tumors that affect this tissue.

Research Focus: New Tools in Education and Training in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck

Develop computing science tools that support and complement the teaching and to create virtual model for the teaching and training in otorhinolaryngological surgeries and surgery of head and neck.
